Futuro creates new compliance role

Independent dealer group Futuro Financial Services has steadied itself for regulatory change with the appointment of James Shearing to the new position of national manager, legal and compliance.

The company stated it had repositioned its senior management team to “maximise the opportunities that will arise as the financial services industry struggles to adapt to wide-ranging regulatory changes”.

Futuro managing director Dennis Bashford said the appointment of a compliance expert “frees up other senior executives, particularly Paul Kelly (director, network services) and myself, to focus on the opportunities that we see emerging under the new financial planning regime”.

Shearing comes to the new position from ClearView Wealth Management where he also worked in a compliance role. He previously held positions as a paraplanner at Quadrant Securities and, prior to that, worked in several legal firms throughout the state.

“Our business emerged from the global financial crisis in great health, thanks in part to the compliance culture that we have instilled here,” Bashford said.

“James’s appointment will ensure that we continue to uphold our high standards, while also enabling Futuro to concentrate on developing some important strategic initiatives.”
