The scammer who sympathises with the scammed
As sad as Outsider was to learn that Australians have lost about $1,000,000 a week to scams thus far this year, he was surprised to see the news arrive in his inbox courtesy of finder.com.au.
Outsider wonders how many products featured on price comparison sites such as finder.com.au are amongst the scams Finder is concerned are ripping people off.
So, sharing the statistic may have been regarded as inadvertent promotional activity for the site, considering many of those who receive aggressive follow-up calls from people in call centres linked to comparator sites may well be feeling they are being spammed if not scammed.
Of course, the financial planning industry should not be surprised by the revelation that scams are so prolific. Outsider wonders if the exposure of fees for no service may qualify payments to certain firms as scams.
Then again, it might just be all an oversight, or a systems failure, or a failure to communicate.
