I’m a lumberjack and I’m Okay

Perception is everything, and Outsider notes that the Federal Treasurer, Scott Morrison, sees himself as a surgeon, not a lumberjack.

How does Outsider know this? Because in the lead-up to this week’s Budget the Treasurer kept referring to his preference for a scalpel over the Australian Labor Party’s use of a chainsaw.

Morrison, you see, sees great merit in a softly-softly approach to policy, particularly to addressing the housing affordability crisis.

“We’ve been careful with our approach. We’ve been careful with the regulatory approach, using that scalpel, not Labor’s chainsaw, because we know that if you take that other approach, you’re at great risk of causing the sort of housing shock that would have real negative economic consequences on Australian families,” the Federal Treasurer told open-mouthed journalists in Canberra last week.

Outsider notes that surgeons, apart from (thankfully) demonstrating great precision, also earn a lot of money.

However references to chainsaws reminded Outsider of the lyrics of the Monty Python “Lumberjack” song, particularly the following verse:

I cut down trees. I wear high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my dear Papa.

Which reminds Outsider of a certain former Coalition Government minister who was photographed wearing high heels and fishnet stockings, but that is another story.
