Global consulting firm Watson Wyatt Australia is establishing a portfolio construction group (PCG) in Australia in line with the company’s strategy in other major centres.

The move will see the new group interfacing with Watson Wyatt’s existing investment strategy and manager research teams and will be underpinned by the appointment of Michael Blayney as head of the group and Hugh Dougherty as head of manager research, Australia.

Explaining the rationale behind the establishment of the new group, Watson Wyatt’s head of investment consulting practice Graeme Miller said its role would be to ensure that client portfolios were best-positioned to achieve their risk and return objectives and to take advantage of emerging opportunities.

“More specifically, the PCG in Australia will have primary responsibility for ensuring that the types, styles and combinations of investment managers used in the portfolio construction process are consistent with the investment beliefs of our clients and will draw on the firm’s global experience in this area,” he said.
