When Caitlin Conroy was diagnosed with leukaemia, her family’s world was turned upside down. Facing six to nine months of intensive treatment, Caitlin desperately needed full time support and care from her mother, Carla. Carla suddenly had to juggle caring for Caitlin, time away from work, the cost of additional childcare for her two year old son, mortgage repayments and medical expenses. Everything was uncertain. She wondered how long their savings would last, how she would take care of both her children and when she would be able to return to work. Thankfully for the Conroy family a little preparation before Caitlin’s illness went a long way.

After Caitlin’s diagnosis, Carla contacted her adviser to see if they still had family protection benefit bundled into their insurance policy with AIA, which they did. Within two weeks the money was in her account. Carla’s Family Protection insurance meant she was able to get the financial support she needed so she could focus on what mattered most – Caitlin’s recovery.

With Family Protection, you too can help your clients protect their loved ones. Family Protection can help your clients maintain financial stability during turbulent times. It can help them with the cost of their child’s treatment, meeting existing financial obligations and everyday expenses so their child can be their number one priority.

Encourage your clients to think about having a back-up plan in place, just in case. These types of discussions aren’t pleasant but they’re necessary. By bringing your client’s attention to the worst case scenario you can be of better service to them and identify appropriate solutions for problems they may face in the future. A plan can give them peace of mind and helps to make them feel safe and secure, even if they never need to make a claim.

We all know that life doesn’t always go to plan. Sometimes our worst nightmares come true. We can’t prevent them, but we can prepare for them. It’s what makes our role as insurers and advisers so important. We’re there for our clients in their time of need.
