Honesty was the best policy
Carolan Ibbotson has been named BDM of the Year as part of Money Management/Super Review’s Women in Financial Services Awards 2013.
Honesty and integrity above and beyond the high standards of a business development manager were the qualities that the judging panel recognised in Carolan.
Since joining Endowment Bond Exchange in May 2012, she has been a driving force behind increasing awareness among planners about this little known product. Educating advisers on the practical and applied use of endowment bonds is Ibbotson’s first priority.
According to a fellow BDM who has known her for more than four years, Ibbotson spends a considerable amount of time getting to know the financial planners she “sells” to. Specifically, this is in the context of providing good strategic advice to the target client for the product.
“As Carolan has moved within the financial services industry representing various institutions, I have found that she has done so with an authenticity that I admire,” the BDM said.
“She is a rare BDM who is able to transcend the sales and rhetoric that comes with the role and become a real asset to our industry.”
Beyond on her BDM role, she is committed to mentoring women in financial services and is a firm believer in raising professional and education standards in the financial advice industry.
Alongside her membership of the Association of Financial Advisers and the SMSF Professionals’ Association of Australia, Ibbotson is an active member of the Financial Planning Association, recently joining the Western Sydney Sub Chapter Committee as a mentor and coach.
She sees her BDM role as a platform that allows her to provide the best product solutions, and also to show advisers how to apply these to the right clients at the right time to provide the right strategic advice for them.
Ibbotson continues to speak at various industry forums about the need to change the way advisers help clients plan for retirement.
