The Australian Tennis Open in Melbourne has become one of the biggest forums yet for the industry funds compare the pair advertising campaign with Industry Super having emerged as a lead sponsor of the tournament.

Financial planners tuning in to watch Australia's veteran Lleyton Hewitt play John Duckworth would have noted a strong serving of the compare the pair advertising campaign with references to the returns generated by industry funds versus those generated by retail funds.

Industry Super Australia (ISA) has even taken to twitter to promote both the tennis tournament and its compare the pair advertising campaign.

The industry funds' sponsorship of the tournament comes only a few months following Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) confirmation before a Senate Committee about the number of allegations it receives about false and misleading advertising, some of them relating to the compare the pair advertising campaign.

However, the ASIC officials said that action was not always pursued by the regulator if it was believed those making complaints had resources to pursue the issue themselves.
