Zurich Financial Services Australia has appointed former State Street BT Investment Management executive, Peter Mitchell as its new national sales manager, retail risk.

The company announced the appointment this week and said Mitchell would report to Zurich's head of distribution life and investments, Kristine Brooks and take responsibility for driving sales across Zurich's life insurance product range.

Commenting on the appointment, Brooks said Mitchell brought a wealth of skills and knowledge across business development, service and relationship management.

"He joins at a time when we're reshaping our business into a market leader, with a product and service proposition that has been greatly enhanced since our acquisition of Macquarie Life's risk business last October," she said.

Zurich's national retail risk sales team of 33 people would report to Mitchell.
