Vanguard Investments has appointed a new chief investment officer, Joseph Brennan, for its Asia Pacific investment team.

Brennan is a principal and director of Vanguard’s portfolio review group in the United States. He will relocate to Melbourne to take up the appointment. He will be responsible for overseeing managed equity and fixed interest portfolios for institutional and retail clients. He will report to Jeremy Duffield, chairman of Vanguard Investments, Asia Pacific, and Vanguard’s global chief investment officer, Gus Sauter.

Brennan currently heads a department of 30 people monitoring the investment activities of 170 funds and 28 external managers. He has worked with Vanguard for 15 years in a number of investment roles.

“As the director of Vanguard’s portfolio review group, Joe brings invaluable experience to his new role, having for the past 10 years researched, monitored and reviewed more than 25 highly regarded institutional investment management firms,” Duffield said.

“This appointment is also an important step in Vanguard building a more integrated global asset management business.”
