Suncorp Life has appointed Sean Carroll as its new executive general manager for life risk in Australia - he will move from the same position he held in New Zealand.

Suncorp Life chief executive Geoff Summerhayes announced the appointment, saying Carroll would continue to provide his oversight and support his New Zealand successor until a replacement is found.

Carroll started his career with predecessor companies of Asteron, originally joining Sun Alliance in the UK before relocating to Sydney and spending nine years in Australia between 1995 and 2004.

He also held several executive roles at Asteron New Zealand, including managing director. Before evolving into general management of the life risk industry, Carroll was an actuary by training.

He will officially make a move to the new position after having acted in his new Australian role for five months.
