Shaw and Partners has expanded its institutional equities desk.

The company announced late last week that it had appointed Sam Kanaan as Sales Trader to the institutional equities team, with Kanaan expected to start his new role in early September.

Kanaan would join Shaw and Partners from Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he traded stocks on behalf of domestic and international superannuation and trading funds, specialising in small cap, listed real estate, and infrastructure stocks.

Confirming Kanaan's appointment, Shaw and Partners head of equities, Mike Ryan said the firm was reinvesting to enhance its offerings.

"We are very selective with our appointments, as we look for the right people with the right skills and enthusiasm, who have a desire to better our institutional and capital markets platform," he said.
