Northern Trust hires Asia-Pacific chief

Northern Trust has appointed George Hindmarsh as head of Asia-Pacific business development to manage its regional sales team for corporate and institutional clients.
Hindmarsh will join a regional footprint that has grown to more than 3,100 staffers and a team that spans across Singapore and Australia servicing corporations, sovereign wealth funds, government entities, superannuation funds, asset managers and other institutional clients.
Asia-Pacific is the fastest growing region in Northern Trust's portfolio in terms of assets under custody and has grown 9 per cent annually from 2007 to 2011.
Hindmarsh has 15 years of banking experience and was previously Citi Transaction Services' director head of UK investor services.
As head of the Asia sales team for Citi, he was responsible for securing asset servicing mandates from European investors into Asia, and held roles in asset servicing sales and relationship management in Hong Kong.
Hindmarsh also worked at HSBC in client relationship roles based in Hong Kong and Canada.
He will report to chief executive for the Asia-Pacific region, Teresa Parker.
"Hindmarsh has a record of creating innovative solutions, developing new markets and closing landmark mandates," she said.
The appointment will build on Northern Trust's recent growth in the Asia-Pacific, according to Parker.
Northern Trust's regional expansion includes the addition of an investment operations outsourcing team and hedge fund services team, and senior appointments in its Melbourne office.
