National Australia Bank (NAB) has announced the appointment of Dr Ken Henry AC to the role of non-executive director.

Effective in his role from 1 November, NAB chairman Michael Chaney said Henry's experience in both domestic and international finance sector policy would be an asset to the board.

Henry previously served as secretary to the Department of the Treasury between 2001 and 2011, and chaired Australia's Future Tax System Review (informally known as the Henry Tax Review), which was published in 2010.

In June 2011, Henry was also appointed as special adviser (on a part-time basis) to Prime Minister Julia Gillard's portfolio.

Henry was awarded Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2007 for his services in developing and implementing economic and taxation policy for the Australian finance sector through a range of banking regulatory bodies.
