New York-based investment bank Moelis & Company will open its first Australian office in Sydney while at the same time appointing a five-person team to cover the Australian and Asian markets.

Joining the team will be two former members of the Sydney JP Morgan investment team, Chris Wyke and Julian Biggins.

Wyke will take on the role of managing director and Biggins will become senior vice-president.

Meanwhile, Ben Wong also of JP Morgan has been appointed vice-president with Phil Newman and Paul Rathborne coming on board as associates.

“The launch of our Australian office is an important first step towards growing our coverage of the key Asia-Pacific region,” Moelis & Company chief executive Ken Moelis said.
