MLC announces internal promotion of Ross Barnwell

Former head of sales retail wealth products at MLC Ross Barnwell has been promoted to general manager of advice partnerships.
Barnwell, who replaces Peter Smith after he resigned for lifestyle reasons, has 20 years experience covering retail and institutional markets. He has held various leadership positions in advice and distribution at other financial institutions including ING Australia, where he was general manager of advice and distribution.
“Ross is client-centric and is very passionate about improving financial literacy for all Australians and is focussed on improving the significant retirement savings gap that exists,” executive general manager of wealth advice, MLC John Flavell said.
Barnwell has been at MLC for two years. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Smith will be taking up an equity partner position in an integrated botique advice and accounting firm in Brisbane.
