Veteran financial adviser John Campbell has been appointed Australian chairperson of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT).

Campbell has been a financial adviser for 32 years, and will take over from outgoing chairperson Stuart Farrell on 1 September. Campbell has been a member of the MDRT for eight years, five of which he served as South Australia chairperson.

Farrell has recently returned from the MDRT’s annual meeting in Vancouver, Canada. He lauded the contribution of the Australian contingent, which comprised 63 members, three special industry guests and two speakers. He noted that Bev Carlyon was appointed regional chair for USA, Canada and Oceania, which Farrell said demonstrated how well regarded Australian advisers were.

Farrell used the announcement of the end of his tenure to express his concern at what he described as an ongoing attack on the financial adviser industry, despite the fact that the vast majority of professional advisers continued to work with and add value for their clients. He supported the Association of Financial Advisers’ stance that customer choice should be promoted, rather than adviser remuneration options restricted.
