KPMG loses head of forensic
The former head of KPMG’s forensic accounting team in Melbourne Dean Newlan has left to join a new independent specialist in this area.
Newlan has joined McGrathNichol+Partners, which has established a new forensic business called McN+Forensic as a partner.
“Having established and led KPMG forensic’s Melbourne team for the last 11 years, I decided it was time to take advantage of the new opportunities which are presenting themselves in this area of business,” Newlan said.
“I will be working with Jon Rowell, also a former KPMG Forensic colleague, to build a full service forensic practice comprising dispute advisory, investigation and forensic technology services on a national basis.”
Newlan has worked with administrators on a number of high profile receiverships, including Linter Group and ION as well as a number of fraud cases.
He assisted the Law Institute of Victoria in dealing with its largest ever claim on the Solicitors’ Guarantee Fund.
Newlan also chaired the Standards Australia working party that developed the first Fraud and Computer Control Standard (AS8001).
McGrath is an advisory firm specialising in corporate restructuring and insolvency.
Newlan says the forensic services are seen as complementary to the existing business.
