KPMG Australia has acquired Australian financial services technology consultancy, Markets IT.

KPMG announced the acquisition this week, saying the transaction would significantly bolster the firm's depth and scale in the burgeoning capital markets technology sector.

According to KPMG's formal announcement, Markets IT implements integrated trading, risk management, regulatory reform, trader surveillance, processing and post-trade solutions for both buy and sell-side organisations including banks, clearing brokers, central banks, investment managers and hedge funds.

Confirming the acquisition, KPMG Australia chief executive, Gary Wingrove, said it represented a very timely and strategic acquisition which supported KPMG's global capital markets strategy and its Murex-related services.
