Aon Australia has announced two key appointments within its broking business — the promotion of Jeff Smith to the role of executive chairman of One Underwriting and the recruitment of Ross Campbell, to the role of placement director, Aon Risk Solutions (ARS) Commercial.

Announcing the appointments this week, the company said they formed part of Aon's wider strategy to bolster its broking business in Australia.

It said Smith represented a significant asset for Aon after working with the firm and its predecessor companies for over 43 years in numerous roles, the most recent being placement director for Aon's commercial business.

"Given Jeff's knowledge and strategic abilities, we have asked him to lead the continued growth of One Underwriting," Aon's managing director, broking, and chief broking officer, Pacific, James Baum said.

"Aon has significant plans for the continued growth of One Underwriting across those areas that we believe present the best opportunities for new products, so we can ensure that we help our clients deal with complex risks that may be overlooked in the insurance market. Jeff will play a critical role in driving the growth agenda for One Underwriting," Baum said.

The announcement said Campbell had joined Aon from Willis Towers Watson where he has been placement director, broking services. His appointment will be effective from 1 September.
