iShares has named its new director of products and capital markets, Jonathan Howie, who will support the distribution of the company's exchange traded funds (ETFs).

Howie - who joined BlackRock from Macquarie Bank - will also assist with the development of technical and product-specific content and management of iShares broker/dealer relationships.

Managing director of iShares Australia Mark Oliver welcomed Howie to the team, saying the new appointment would provide the education and specialist support Aussie ETF investors need.

"As the Australian ETF industry grows and new asset classes become available, I believe transparency, education and investor support will become increasingly important," Oliver said.

While at Macquarie Bank, Howie held a position within the equities structured products business for two and a half years, and more recently on the Delta 1 trading desk.
