ING Direct has moved to expand its presence in the adviser space with the appointment of Charles Smith to a senior role within the bank's third party distribution team.

Smith previously worked at ING Australia (now OnePath) and prior to that held various roles at ANZ Funds Management, Citibank and ANZ Banking Group. He has 37 years experience in the wealth industry with skills across strategy, sales, business development and leadership.

"Charles is incredibly well-known and respected in the industry so we're privileged to have his insight and experience in the team," ING Direct head of third party distribution Mark Woolnough said.

The bank plans to roll out its Living Super offering to adviser platforms by mid next year, and Woolnough said Smith would play a vital role in introducing the product to a new market.
