AMP’s mental health training, which helped employees and advisers engage with people experiencing mental health issues, has been awarded the Financial Services Council (FSC)'s Innovation in Retail Life Insurance award.

The program, which was developed in conjunction with the Black Dog Institute, was well above the FSC’s standard for mental health in terms of the breadth of people who could access it and the depth of content it covered.

AMP has seen 600 financial advisers voluntarily undertake the training since its refresh in October last year.

AMP group executive insurance, Megan Beer, said to have so many advisers opt to undergo the training in just six  months has exceeded all expectations.

“It reflects the growing understanding of the impact of mental health on clients and the growing willingness for our broader community to respond to these challenges,” said Beer. “We’re now planning to make the training available to our external and non-aligned financial advisers.”

Beer said the training has helped equip advisers to recognise signs in a client they have developed a relationship with.
