FSC appoints executive director in newly created role

The Financial Services Council (FSC) has appointed Justine Earl-Smith as executive director for commercial partnerships and growth.
Earl-Smith joins from the Association of Superannuation Funds Australia (ASFA) where she spent almost five years as a commercial director. Prior to this, she spent six years working for the NSW government.
During her time at ASFA, she worked on developing its program of conferences, webinars and member events.
In her role at the FSC, she will lead the establishment and implementation of the FSC’s event and member engagement strategy and develop commercial opportunities and relationships that support the FSC’s goals.
Writing on LinkedIn, she said: “In this newly created role, I will lead a dynamic events and member engagement strategy, and I’m eager to collaborate with the FSC team, members and future partners to bring this exciting vision to life.
“I’m looking forward to this new chapter and to working closely with CEO Blake Briggs, the FSC board, and the wider team to elevate member engagement and drive growth.
“Looking back on my five years as ASFA’s commercial director, I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together, thanks to the support and trust of ASFA’s members and partners, and the brilliant events, commercial, policy and broader ASFA team.”
In September, the FSC appointed AMP chief executive Alexis George as its deputy chair to support chair David Bryant. She holds the role jointly with Sean West, head of wealth management at Macquarie.
George joined the FSC board in September 2023 and is also co-chair of the superannuation board committee.
It also appointed Chaneg Torres as executive director of policy in July to take over from Spiro Premetis.
