FPA appoints two independent board directors
The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) has appointed two independent board directors to replace former chairman Kathryn Greiner and David Elsum, who resigned in November.
Bruce Foy and Rob Gerrand will attend their first board meeting next month, joining four new directors that were elected by FPA members at the annual general meeting in November last year.
Their appointment restores the FPA board to 11 members, comprising eight directors elected by the FPA membership, the two new independent appointees, and FPA chief executive Kerrie Kelly.
The FPA constitution allows for a maximum of 12 board members, including three directors to be appointed at the discretion of the board, chairman and the chief executive officer.
FPA chairman Corinna Dieters said the appointment of Foy and Gerrand would “complement the skill set and professional knowledge of those directors who have been elected from among the membership.
“The corporate governance and strategic management would be substantially strengthened by the combination of experience brought by the two new appointees,” she said.
Foy’s experience is principally in corporate and investment banking, having been on the local boards of Banque Bruxelles Lambert, Bank of Montreal and ING Bank Australia.
He currently serves on the board of Citic Australia Trading Limited, TransGrid Corporation and First State Trustee Corporation.
He is also a former chairman of IBSA, the professional body representing investment banking, and is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Gerrand runs a communications and marketing consultancy out of Melbourne, and is a fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute.
He has a long history of business and community involvement, including serving on the boards of Parks Victoria, the Mental Health Research Institute and the Melbourne Convention and Marketing Bureau.
He was also the founding president of the Monash Alumni Association.
The FPA board now comprises:
Bruce Beakey CFP (elected November 2005)
Julie Berry CFP (re-elected November 2005)
Sarah Brennan, deputy chairman
Chris Craggs CFP
Corinna Dieters, chairman
Bruce Foy
Rob Gerrand
Paul Gerrard CFP (elected November 2005)
Leonie Henry CFP
Kerrie Kelly, chief executive officer
