Mercer has expanded its financial advice team in Western Australia with the appointment of Michael Heffernan, the former head of advice with the Government Employees Superannuation Board's (GESB's) financial advice practice.

As a senior financial adviser, Heffernan will be particularly focussed on supporting GESB members who are in need of tailored financial advice, Mercer head of financial advice Jo-Anne Bloch said.

"GESB has a number of specialised, untaxed funds which require expert knowledge of their intricacies and complexities for members," she said.

Bringing with him experience in establishing GESB's financial advice business after leaving Mercer six years ago, Heffernan joins Sam Clark and Gina Abuda, who are also former GESB advisers.

Bloch said the appointments reflect Mercer's commitment to the WA region and GESB members.
"Our business model is very similar to GESB's financial advice model, which was recently closed," she said.
