Financial services technology provider GBST has announced the appointment of current Boeing Australia and South Pacific president Dr Ian Thomas as non-executive independent director.

The company anticipates Dr Thomas' international expertise and strategic guidance on market entry strategies will strengthen the company's resolve to expand more of its operations outside of Australia.

With twenty years of global experience in a variety of senior roles, Thomas served as vice president for Boeing's European operations, headed up its defence activities in the United Kingdom, and was director of international policy for Boeing's military aircraft and missile systems division in the United States.

Prior to joining the aircraft manufacturer, Thomas served in a variety of staff and policy roles in the US Department of Defence.

He is currently president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia and is a member of the Government's Manufacturing Task Force.

Commenting on the appointment, GBST managing director Stephen Lake said that the important role that technology systems play in the success of a client is something that Thomas is accustomed to and his counsel will prove invaluable to the technology company.
