Ex-County manager joins Challenger
Former County executive Paul van Ryn has signed up with Challenger as head of fixed interest within its funds management subsidiary Challenger Portfolio Management.
van Ryn takes on the new post after looking after the business of investing in credit and hybrid securities on behalf of clients at County Investment Management.
van Ryn says his new role is bigger than that at County which was more a portfolio management role, whereas now he will be actively involved in growing the fixed interest business and infrastructure at Challenger.
van Ryn spent more than seven years at County, and prior to that, worked with the State Electricity Commission of Victoria for over 13 years. He has 21 years experience overall working in financial services industry.
In his new job, which he commenced on Wednesday last week, he will be reporting to Challenger director Roger Bacon. van Ryn says his new job is a newly created one in Challenger.
"I'm very excited about Challenger as a group and the prospects of working for this very formidable funds management organisation," he says.
His move to Challenger follows the sale of County to Invesco late last year for $110 million.
The departure of van Ryn follows closely on the departure of County head of retail Bruce Garrat, who left mid-February after his corresponding number for Invesco, John Ntatsopoulos, was given the head of retail job in the combined County/Invesco outfit.
