Specialist superannuation insurance provider Beazley has appointed Dharmesh Patel to head finance for Asia-Pacific and Seta Samimi as claims manager for Australia.

Patel will work on the firm's strategic direction in Australia after a four-year stint in a variety of roles at the company's London office.

Prior to this he worked for insurers Aviva, Liberty and Promina.

Samimi will focus on the strategic management of the Australian claims team. She recently left his post as national workers compensation manager for DP World Australia and also has experience at QBE insurance.

Managing director for Beazley underwriting Noel Nosworthy said the appointments would strengthen the company's business development capabilities and customer service.

"With regulatory changes set to change the income protection insurance sector in Australia, Beazley is well positioned to provide a high level of service to clients and offer a tailored, specialist approach which can be very valuable to superannuation funds," he said.

Nosworthy said Beazley's underwriting philosophy focuses on niches where underwriters add value to the product, which he said also added strength to Beazley's income protection business.

Beazley expanded operations in 2011 by acquiring Australian Income Protection.
