Barclays Global Investors (BGI) has promoted Morry Waked, chief executive of Australia, to global head and chief investment officer for BGI’s global active equity business.

Waked will remain responsible for BGI’s investment business. He will remain based in Sydney.

“Morry is a proven leader and investment specialist and I am delighted that he has accepted this role,” said BGI global chief executive Blake Grossman.

“The global active equity business is a core global franchise for the firm. Under Morry’s leadership, the Australian and overseas equity teams will share a consistent vision and co-ordinated investment agenda,” he said.

BGI will name a replacement Australian chief executive in the near future.
