Two AXA Asia Pacific directors, Richard Allert and Patricia Akopiantz, have been asked to join the AMP Board as non-executive directors once the merger between the two companies is completed.

AMP chairman Peter Mason said it was expected that the new directors would join the board immediately after the implementation of the merger, assuming the proposal gets the green light from shareholders, regulators and the court.

Allert had been a director on the AXA board since 1995 and a chairman since 2000. He is also chairman of Western Desert Resources and former chairman of the Coles Group, among others.

Akopiantz joined the AXA board in 2006 and is currently a non-executive director of Energy Australia.

AMP also advised that Richard Grellman had announced his retirement as a director of AMP and would not be standing for re-election.
