The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has announced the appointment of Brett Bassett as Queensland regional commissioner.

Bassett is currently senior executive leader - compliance and deterrence, a position he was appointed to in 2009 as part of ASIC's Real Economy team.

Commencing his new role from 1 December, he replaces Dr Pamela Hanrahan, who was appointed Queensland regional manager in July 2010.

Commenting on Bassett's prior involvement with the regulatory body, ASIC chairman Greg Medcraft said Bassett has made an invaluable contribution to a team committed to improving confidence in financial market integrity.
