AMP poaches SPAA technical director
AMP has appointed SMSF Professionals' Association of Australian (SPAA) technical director Peter Burgess as head of policy and technical across the institution's SMSF division.
Burgess told Money Management he would be commencing his new role on 10 April.
He will report to AMP SMSF director, business operations, Craig Jameson.
"It's almost identical to my role at SPAA. I'll be working on the policy side of things and making sure that AMP's got a voice at the table, given that they're investing so much money into the SMSF sector," Burgesss said.
Burgess described his time at SPAA as a "fantastic and rewarding experience".
"I have been fortunate to be part of a team who are passionate and energetic about the SMSF sector, and who work diligently to drive the sector forward," said Burgess.
"I will always remain a staunch supporter of SPAA and the good work it does to lift the standard of professionalism in the SMSF sector, and I look forward to continuing my relationship with SPAA, albeit in a different capacity," he said.
SPAA chief executive Andrea Slattery said it was a testament to the reputation of her organisation that AMP had chosen to appoint Burgess to such a senior position.
"We look forward to continuing our relationship with Peter through involvement on our Regulatory Committee and industry leading SMSF National Conference," said Slattery.
Graeme Colley, who is currently SPAA's director of education and professional standards, will take over Burgess's role.
"Graeme has more than 30 years' experience in the superannuation industry and had been involved in many of the changes that have taken place to the Government's superannuation policy during that time," said Slattery.
