AMP hires advice exec to help rebuilding

AMP has hired experienced financial services executive, Luke Symons, into its advice team to help drive its rebuilding following the seemingly endless fallout of the company’s admissions before the Royal Commission.
Symons was appointed as director, channel performance and growth, as which AMP said he would “help drive the company’s rebuilding and growth strategy forward”.
Pertinently, Symons had previously held roles in which he was responsible for business transformation and customer experience at ANZ. He also founded a fintech business that specialised in the design and execution of technology solutions to help businesses address financial services legislation. Of course, it is still unclear what legislative changes may stem from the Royal Commission.
Symons touched on AMP’s troubled year when commenting on his appointment but was excited to help the firm rebuild.
“AMP has a proud history and I am proud to be part of it. Despite recent challenges, I believe the company will continue to make a valuable contribution to customers’ lives and lead the way in building a sustainable and strong future for financial advice,” he said.
Acting group executive advice at AMP, David Akers, said that Symons’ experience would be especially valuable for the firm’s aligned businesses.
“He … understands small businesses and how to partner with them to help them grow sustainably, which is a boost for the hundreds of advice practices in our aligned advice network,” Akers said.
