AMP Capital Investors has grown its Future Directions Funds team in response to market growth with the appointment of senior portfolio manager Van Athukorala.

Athukorala’s focus will be on large and small cap Australian equities and international equities portfolios.

His previous role was senior investment manager within ipac’s investment management division from 2001. He has also worked with CSR Australian Superannuation Fund and GIO Asset Management.

AMP Capital’s investment director of multi-manager and investment solutions Sean Henaghan said the team had grown to 11 investment professionals and Athukorala’s appointment is due to continued growth in the asset class.

Future Directions Funds portfolio manager Tanya Debakhapouve has relocated to AMP Capital’s Singapore office and her focus will be on global emerging equities and Asia (ex-Japan) equities.

Henaghan said the appointment of a dedicated portfolio manager for Asian and emerging market equities was in light of increasing relevance of those asset classes in investors’ portfolios.
