AMP Capital has added portfolio manager/analyst Andy Gardner and senior portfolio manager/analyst Ed Rayner to its Australian Fundamental Equities team, which now comprises 13 investment professionals in Sydney.

Gardner, who joined from MF Global with more than 10 years investment experience, is responsible for the Australian resources sector.

Rayner has been seconded from AllianceBernstein since October 2011 and has accepted a permanent role at AMP Capital, effective 1 April 2012.  He has 16 years investment experience at AllianceBernstein, UBS Brinson and JP Morgan Investment, and will continue to run a core growth strategy, AMP Capital stated.

AMP Capital's head of Fundamental Equities Ella Brown said AMP Capital would also launch a global resources fund to be managed by another new hire, John Payne.

Payne recently joined the broader Fundamental Equities team as a senior portfolio manager. He has over 24 years experience in funds management, having run a variety of global resource strategies at Hexam Capital, Baring Asset Management, Invesco, Tiburon and Capital Elements.

"John's appointment introduces a new capability to AMP Capital and will allow us to launch a global resources fund to meet increasing demand from our clients in Asia and the Middle East," Brown said.
