Green issues driving property investors
Energy sustainability of buildings is now an immediate priority for the majority of property investors, according to a Jones Lang LaSalle survey of property investors.
The survey found that 57 per cent of respondents would consider sustainability as an issue within the next 12 months, compared to last year, where 76 per cent saw it as an issue that would be critical in up to five years’ time.
“Sustainability is an issue that is a key priority to both the business and the political community,” according to Chris Wallbank, Jones Lang LaSalle’s national director of sustainability and engineering services.
“The investment and commercial property industries can no longer afford to ignore the issue.”
The survey found 61 per cent of respondents (compared to 56 per cent in 2006) said sustainability would “sway their decision between alternative investments”, all other things being equal.
Almost one-third of investors (29 per cent) further indicated that they would actually pay more for a building with sustainability potential.
