Ausbil expands distribution team with research house role
Ausbil has expanded its distribution team with the hire of a manager for investment research and consulting.
Syvanna Croyden has joined the fund manager this week from State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) where she served as the head of managed funds for six years as part of a nine-year career with the firm.
She also spent five years as an executive director at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, three years at AMP Capital and four years at Colonial First State.
In July, the firm announced its head of wholesale distribution Hik Chadirchi would be departing after 17 years with the business, and stated a specialist would be hired in due course to manage the firm’s relationships with research houses and independent consultants.
In the interim prior to Croyden’s appointment, research house relationships were being handled by senior manager for global institutional distribution Fawaz Rashid.
Mark Knight, chief executive of Ausbil, said: “The research and consulting segment is really important to us. Syvanna has the right experience to communicate our investment quality and outlook. We’re delighted to have her on board.”
Croyden added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Ausbil and am looking forward to working alongside their highly experienced and knowledgeable team. Ausbil is a leader in the Australian equity market and I’m very excited by their initiatives in ESG and global equities.”
Ausbil manages over $19.5 billion in funds under management across Australian and global equities.
Ausbil also faced the departure of its head of Australian equities John Grace after 23 years, who is set to retire at the end of the year.
As a result of the move, the firm has made several internal changes to its Australian equities management which will take effect from 1 July.
Nicholas Condoleon has been appointed as deputy head of equities, Australian long only, and will remain as a portfolio manager on the Ausbil Active Sustainable Equity Fund. Mans Carlsson, head of ESG at the firm, has been appointed as co-manager of the fund.
Gian Pandit has been appointed as deputy head of equities, Australian delta adjusted, and as a portfolio manager on the 130/30 Focus and Long Short Focus funds, supported by Chris Smith.
David Lloyd and Arden Jennings have been appointed as co-heads of emerging companies. Jennings will also jointly manage the small and micro-cap strategies with Andrew Peros, and have Tom Cutler as co-portfolio manager and Beyhan Irmako as equity analyst on small and micro-caps.
Smith has been appointed as head of equities research in an oversight capacity, with Stella McMullen as his deputy on the day-to-day stock research and earnings models.
