Top 10 Most Influential: Nick Sherry
IT is little surprise the Opposition spokesman on retirement incomes, Senator Nick Sherry, made it to theMoney ManagementMost Influential list, given the ongoing debate over key elements of superannuation policy.
The debate has surrounded superannuation portability, choice of fund and the evolution of broader Government and Opposition policy, and the panel decided there was no question about Sherry’s contribution to the debate.
According to one panelist: “He has had a huge influence. He has blocked everything in the Senate and the whole fee debate at the moment is with Sherry. You can’t question the influence he has had this year and will continue to have in time to come.”
Another panel member made the comment that Labor politicians always make it clear where they are coming from and there is consistency in their outcomes, and Sherry is no exception.
“He holds the Government’s legislation up and gets changes through.”
Sherry says he has spent a good deal of his time on the Opposition front bench developing a detailed policy that he believes is fair, clear, long-term and sustainable.
He says even from the Opposition it has been possible in the Senate to have a major influence on the final outcome of legislation.
