Three Aussie banks make world Top 100 in value
Three of Australia's four major banks have won places in a global list of the top 100 most valuable global brands of 2013.
The annual study by global brand equity database BrandZ showed the Commonwealth Bank had moved up 12 places to number 48 year-on-year.
The institution also featured among the top 20 risers as its brand value surged 36 per cent to US$17.7 billion.
ANZ Bank (52) and Westpac (88) were first-timers to the global rankings, with global brand value at US$16.6 billion and US$10.1 billion respectively, BrandZ stated.
BrandZ collects the raw data for the study each year by interviewing both potential and current buyers of a brand, along with gathering financial data, to calculate the brand's value.
Global research firm Millward Brown Optimor conducted the study.
"Australian brands are fast gaining prominence as emerging over-achievers, having added a further three brands to the list in 2013 since Commonwealth Bank's debut in 2012," Millward Brown senior business consultant Johnny Panagiotidis said.
He said the inclusion of more Australian brands reflected the strength of the local economy and its proximity to Asian markets.
