St George chairman becomes Westpac deputy chair

Westpac Banking Corporation today confirmed three St George Bank directors would become members of the board of the merged banking entity.

Westpac chairman Ted Evans said current St George Bank chairman John Curtis would become deputy chairman of Westpac while Peter Hawkins and Graham Reaney would become Westpac directors.

He pointed out that the board appointments were subject to remaining approvals.

The appointments will become effective from December 1.

Curtis is the chairman of St George and Allianz Australia Limited and chairman of the Merrill Lynch Australia Advisory Board, while Hawkins is a current director of Visa Inc, Mirvac Limited, Liberty Financial Limited, Treasury Corporation of Victoria and Clayton Utz. Reaney is chairman of PMP Limited and a director of AGL Energy Limited.
