Rankin puts family first

Institute of Actuaries executive director Jock Rankin is not renewing his contract when it expires in January next year.
Rankin says he is not renewing his contract for personal reasons. His wife Mary De-lahunty was made Victorian education and arts minister recently.
“Mary is now a minister, working long, demanding hours and with our young chil-dren, she needs support,” he says.
Rankin maintained his Melbourne home and commuted weekly to the Sydney job. He admitted the commuting was another factor in deciding to leave the institute.
While Rankin is leaving without any position to go to, he told Money Management that “several opportunities are being looked at”. All of these based in Melbourne.
Rankin moved to the institute after his controversial, unscheduled departure from the FPA in September 1996. His two-and-a-half years as chief executive were praised for raising the FPA’s profile with the public and politicians.
