Portfolio Construction Conference: risk controls questioned in active investment
The recent financial crisis has called into question the effectiveness and risk control of many active investment processes.
At this year's PortfolioConstruction Conference (26-27 August 2009), Dr Peter Rathjens, chief investment officer with US-based Arrowstreet Capital, will review the conceptual underpinnings of active asset management, and draw implications for active management in today's environment.
In addition, Rathjens will discuss how arbitrage may cause some alpha signals to become permanently ineffective, while others remain profitable on average but undergo cyclical variation in their effectiveness. He will also be highlighting some of the pitfalls facing active managers as they try to adapt to this environment.
Now in its seventh year, PortfolioConstruction Conference has earned a reputation as the investment conference of the year. To register, go to http://www.PortfolioConstruction.com.au/Conference
Research papers from the PortfolioConstruction Conference will be available in the August edition of Money Management’s Technical Adviser.
