Former Tower Life executive Bill Wawn has taken on the second in command post at BT Portfolio Services.

The former head of corporate superannuation at Tower will head up sales, market-ing, product management and relationship management at BT Portfolio Services following a management restructure at the group. Prior to the restructure, there were separate managers for each function and all reporting to BT Portfolio Serv-ices chief Ron Scott.

Wawn says his appointment as head of client management is not related to the re-cent departure of the group’s wrap account distribution executive Dan Powell. Powell left BT Portfolio Services about a month ago to take up a post with Asgard. Wawn was appointed prior to Powell’s departure and Powell reported to him under the new structure. BT Portfolio Services is currently in the process of recruiting a replacement for Powell.

Wawn says he joins BT at a pivotal moment in the development of the master trust/ wrap account market.

“What is happening now is that we are building stronger partnerships with our cli-ents — whether they be for the wrap account or outsourcing business,” he says. “So I suppose a lot of my focus will be to ensure that we have regular communication with our financial planning and funds management clients.”

Prior to joining Tower in 1997, Wawn spent more than a decade at Macquarie building up its retail funds management business alongside the likes of Bruce Terry, Robyn Fitzroy and Tim Farrelly.
