FPA releases ‘risk and volatility’ booklet
Jo-Anne Bloch
The Financial Planning Association (FPA) has released a free information booklet to help consumers understand investment risk and market volatility.
The Trade-Off: Understanding Investment Risk explains the “kinds of risks most likely to affect the value of a wide range of investments in the short, medium and long term”, according FPA chief executive Jo-Anne Bloch.
“Whilst this booklet takes a much broader view of the benefits and risks of investing, it could be useful at the moment in understanding the current market volatility,” Bloch said.
The FPA had also been motivated to release the booklet by the fact that “four out of five Australians have not yet taken the step of seeking financial advice”, she added.
“We are keen to make sure that the FPA can provide suitable information to help these consumers understand market cycles, and also to seek professional help if they are worried.”
The booklet, which includes tables and graphs, provides investors “with a reference source that they can keep and refer to whenever they are considering a particular investment or looking at an overall investment strategy”, she said.
The Trade-Off: Understanding Investment Risk is available from the FPA on 1800 626 393 or www.fpa.asn.au.
