CIMA designation in demand
As Australia’s peak association for the investment consulting industry, the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) Australia provides members and non-members with the prestigious Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) Program.
This fully accredited program provides participants with a broad understanding of issues confronting ‘client facing’ participants in the investment management marketplace. It is a highly technical and challenging program that consolidates and expands participants’ knowledge, while also providing the latest research, theory and market trends.
The CIMA Program is made up of two components: an independent study program (Level 1) and a residential program and examination (Level 2).
According to IMCA Australia chair Lorraine Berends, the 2007 CIMA Program, which will hold the five day residential program in Sydney on September 23-28, is limited to 20 attendees and is already fully booked.
Material covered in the CIMA Program includes:
~ risk management;
~ forecasting;
~ measuring portfolio returns;
~ beta coefficients;
~ efficient market hypothesis;
~ asset allocation;
~ manager selection and due diligence asset allocation;
~ duration and convexity;
~ performance measurement and attribution; and
~ the Australian legal and regulatory environment.
Following the successful completion of the program, including a four-hour examination, participants receive the CIMA designation. In order to maintain the CIMA designation, people are required to undertake 40 hours of approved education every two years, five hours of which must be IMCA Australia sponsored courses.
Currently, there are 50 CIMA designates in Australia.
This year, IMCA is offering three scholarships to the CIMA Program valued at approximately $5,000. There is one retail scholarship sponsored by BlackRock and two institutional scholarships sponsored by Tyndall Investment Management that are available exclusively to members of the Fund ExecutivesAssociation Limited (FEAL).
