AXA brings reality TV together with financial planning

A primetime interactive television program illustrating how valuable good quality financial advice can be for all Australians is set to be screened in October this year.

The show has been described as reality TV meets financial planning by its creator, AXA Australia, and is intended to demonstrate to viewers how financial planning can pay dividends in the future.

AXA head of sales and marketing Adrian Emery explained: “AXA is clearly passionate about quality financial advice and we were trying to think of a good medium that enables us to get that across.

“We ran a survey called Retirement Scope last year that showed a lot of people were saying, ‘I know I need to plan for retirement but I don’t really know how to do it, and I don’t know where to go to do it, and I don’t know where to start’, so we thought this would be a good way, and an interactive way, to show people how to make a start toward their financial planning,” he said.

The program has been put together in conjunction with the Nine Network and will air as a special one-off edition of the Money TV show.

While the concept was the brainchild of AXA Australia, the financial services company did not put forward any of its own advisers to appear on the show. Instead, Channel Nine chose the advisers who will construct financial plans for the participants on the program.

Two hundred applications from ordinary Australians to appear on the show were received, from which eight were selected to represent an accurate cross section of the nation’s community.

One of the unique elements of the program will be an interactive component aimed at encouraging both the live studio audience and the viewing public at home to answer questions about their own financial situation, and how financial advice could potentially help.

Emery feels the program will help reinforce the quality of advice message the Financial Planning Association has been promoting through its own advertising campaign.

“It really is showing real life examples and practical examples of real Australians in every day situations that people can relate to, and this is what the outcome could look like by taking quality financial advice. So I think it complements it very well,” he said.

The special episode of Money will appear on the Nine Network at 9.30pm on October 2.
