Aussie takes top job at UBS

AFTER JUST three months in the number two job, UBS Asset Management has promoted Australian John Fraser to the position of global chief executive officer.
Formerly the chief operating officer and president of UBS, John Fraser has taken the place of his predecessor, Peter Wuffli who now works on the group executive of UBS’ global operations.
Formerly deputy secretary with the Australian Treasury, Fraser served with the Treasury for over 20 years until 1993 when he joined the then Swiss Banking Corporation.
In 1994, he was appointed executive chairman and chief executive officer of the predecessor to UBS Asset Management in Australia, and in January 1998 assumed responsibility for UBS Asset Management’s operations in both Australia and South East Asia.
In early 1999 Fraser was appointed head of the Asia Pacific region before being promoted to the position of chief operating officer and president in September last year.
In his new role, Fraser will be directly responsible for the overall leadership of the business group.
UBS says the promotion reflects a strong vote of confidence for Fraser and the strong emergence and recognition of Australian talent within the group.
