ASIC deputy steps into top job
Federal Treasurer Peter Costello has announced the appointment of Jeffrey Lucy as chairman of theAustralian Securities and Investments Commission(ASIC) for the next three years.
Lucy has served as the deputy chairman since February 2003 and stepped up to the acting chairman role after the retirement of David Knott in December last year.
Prior to his appointment as deputy chairman, Lucy served as the chairman of theFinancial Reporting Council.
Lucy’s work history also includes a tenure as national president of theInstitute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, managing partner ofPricewaterhouseCoopers, Adelaide and membership of the Business Regulation Advisory Group.
In 2001 he was inducted as a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the accounting profession.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia,CPA Australia, theNational Institute of Accountants, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Meanwhile, the hunt is now on to find Lucy a new deputy. The Treasurer says he has written to the States and Territories to seek nominations for persons to be considered for the role.
