Melbourne-based accounting firm McLean Delmo has joined national accounting group Bentleys' network of independent firms.

Bentleys' five-year national growth plan includes expanding its footprint throughout the country by picking up new firms in major urban centres. It currently has offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle, Tamworth and Canberra.

The association brings Bentleys' network to eight firms, 60 partners, over 400 staff and annual revenue of $75 million.

McLean Delmo managing partner John Delmo said the company had incorporated a national brand strategy into its growth plans.

"This will assist us in generic growth as well as possible merger/acquisition opportunities," he said.

Bentleys' client base includes small and medium enterprises, family businesses, listed entities, professionals, high net-worth individuals and government, which will provide McLean Delmo with many opportunities to extend its specialist services beyond the traditional accounting services model, according to Delmo.

"Bentleys has expert knowledge in a number of key sectors similar to McLean Delmo, and the combined resources can strengthen our exposure to where we're looking to grow our business, including health and ageing, agribusiness, retirement villages, property and education," he said.

"They have led the market in diversifying their business to pursue revenue streams such as financial planning, superannuation outsourcing and lending and finance, and their expertise in these areas can be exported to other licensees in the Bentleys' network."

Delmo said the move would be a boost to staff, providing access to national training and the potential to work with diversified clients as part of a national brand.

The 43-year-old accountancy practice is the second largest firm to join Bentleys and will operate under the name McLean Delmo Bentleys for a transition period.
