Research market roundabout turns again
Theresearch market has been a busy area of financial services over the last 12 months particularly as a market of five players —IWL,Assirt,Morningstar,Lonsecandvan Eyk— found more competitors moving into the space.
Morningstar, fresh from a series of departures in 2001 and 2002, started adding to its numbers with managing director Scott Cooley elevated to chief executive of the local business.
At the same time, Geof Marsh joined the group fromIOOFas national account executive, while ex-Assirt staffers Anthony Serhan and John Lozano joined as head of consulting and head of technology, respectively.
Assirt’s chief Caroline Saunders and head of sales Rebecca Jacques departed after elements of the research house andAdvance Funds Managementwere rolled into the Investment Centre of Excellence (ICE).
Advance CEO Stephen Lam was shifted to head up ICE, and replaced bySealcorp’s marketing manager Kate Mulligan, while Saunders ended up atChallengerheading up construction of multi-manager products, and Jacques joined boutique managerVertex Capitalas associate director.
IWL also bid farewell to staff with Toby Potter leaving the group, to be replaced by Robert Argieri, and analyst Ben Davis moving to Zenith to work once again with Smythe and Wright.
Van Eyk Research associate director Rashmi Mehotra headed to competitorMercer. Van Eyk director and head of consulting Rob Prugue also left the group to head toLazard Asset Management.
